Polis’ work in the field of cultural development as been seen as a point of reference, reflection and liaison for movements, groups and organizations that work or are interested in cultural issues. Traditionally, culture is not considered as essential to the formulation of public policies. The space given to reflection has always therefore been quite limited. There has been a proliferation of movements and institutions over the last few years defending the central nature of culture. Our participation in public discussion, liaising of culture forums, in publications, seminars and advisory services, has been strengthening movements, administrations, academic research, and legislative bodies since the early 1990s, in addition to establishing a national agenda of discussion on culture-related public policies. Polis’ participation over the years has stimulated cultural dynamics in Brazil and contributed to culture being considered as a fundamental factor to human development and quality of life in cities and the reenchantment of the world.
