Over the last six years Polis has been working on the liaison of stakeholders for formulation of public policy proposals related to sustainable management of solid wastes. Sustainability in this area assumes the adoption of actions of social inclusion of street scavengers, as professional in collecting garbage, conducting triage and sale of recyclable material. A structured hybrid system, with autonomous cooperatives and municipal authorities, will make the management system defended in the liaisons that Polis coordinates and/or takes part politically and economically feasible.
Moreover, Polis acts in promoting activities aiming at a change of attitudes and values based on environmental preservation, with a view to constructing a new standard of production and consumption that ensures dignified and healthy living conditions for present and future generations. Polis has become one of the reference institutions on this subject in the country. Its permanent participation in public discussions and in the media bear witness of this.
